• Scarification: Gently rub the seeds with sandpaper or a file to thin the seed coat
• Soaking: After scarification, soak the seeds in room temperature water for another 12-24 hours. This further hydrates the seeds and promotes germination.
• Sowing: Prepare a seed tray or small pots with a well-draining potting mix. You can use a mix of equal parts sand, peat moss, and perlite. Plant the seeds about 1-2 cm deep in the soil. Water the soil thoroughly after planting.
• Germination Conditions: Place the seed tray or pots in a warm, sunny location. Gliricidia seeds require a temperature range of 20-30°C (68-86°F) for optimal germination.Ensure the soil remains moist but not waterlogged.
• Care After Germination: Germination typically takes 2-3 weeks but can vary. Once the seedlings have grown a few sets of true leaves, they can be transplanted to larger pots or directly into the ground if the weather is suitable. Gradually acclimate the seedlings to outdoor conditions by exposing them to direct sunlight for increasing periods each day.
